Scene

I will post some demoscene related material here. If you don't know what the demoscene is, I suggest you read this!

I'm a part of a group called bitFlavour that flipside and I founded the easter of 2008 :) View bitFlavour's demoblog at pouet here. The graphics section will be a bit redundant with the art section on this site...

Things are posted in chronological order. You may sort out the entries by choosing a category below.

Walking My Pet

Name: Walking My Pet
Released: The Gathering 2010
Compo: Freestyle graphics compo
Placed: 1st

I started on this a couple of weeks before TG, but didn't begin the colouring until a couple of days before TG. Shocking :P Well, after some intense days in the weekend before TG, it was almost complete. I had to make the ribbon, and I never got pleased with it. Wic helped me out a bit at the party, but I still dislike how it looks XD But I'm pretty pleased with the mermaid, even though I spent the least time on her. :) Tools used: PSCS3, Painter X and a Wacom.

O Hai Thar

Name: O Hai Thar
Released: The Gathering 2010
Compo: MS Paint compo
Placed: 2nd

Well, this was very fun to make :D Even though I used the Win7 version of Paint. I wish I used the old one in stead, as my approach was better suited for the old one. I mostly made outlines and filled them with the bucket tool. That wasn't any fun in the new version, because lots of artifacts appeared :P Used approximately 10 hours on this =) And yeah, I used a Wacom :3

Attack of the Smilies

Name: Attack of the Smilies
Released: The Gathering 2010
Compo: Photo compo
Placed: 3rd

I got inspired by this tutorial from Deviantart. I drew the smiley by hand and took some pictures :D Look at the WIPs to see my setup. I used glass from a picture frame and waxed it really good to make the nice and round water drops. Used a Canon 300D with it's standard lens.

Recharging

Name: Recharging
Released: Kindergarden 2009
Compo: Pixeled graphics compo
Placed: 3rd

Made this one in quite a hurry before the party. As usual, I was procrastinating... But, surprise: at least I made an attempt for a background this time. I even got finished with it a day before the deadline! But there's several things that I'm not pleased with in this drawing. Especially her face! It's ugly... I got really fed up with her in the end, so I just let her remain ugly. Poor thing :P Made with PSCS3, a wacom and Painter X. And yeah, she's sort of meditating, getting energy from the forest while listening to music \o/

HDR Refraction Test

Name: HDR Refraction Test
Released: Kindergarden 2009
Compo: Photo compo
Placed: 2nd

This photo is kind of a "parody" to the demoscene's standard testing scene. An object on a checkerboard. It's made with a checkerboard printed on some paper, lights and a plastic toy. Picture taken with a Canon EOS 300D.

Koneko

Name: Koneko
Released: Solskogen 2009
Compo: Combined demo compo
Placed: 5th

bitFlavour's second demo! This time, the demo wasn't software rendered. In stead, Outracks' C++ API Frontend was used. The demo has a cardboard look from start to finish. Due to lack of time, this demo was mainly programmed by Duckers of Outracks. Concept, design, organizing and graphics were done by me. Music by Flipside. The storyboard is unfortunately in Norwegian only.

Niji-hime

Name: Niji-hime
Released: The Gathering 2009
Compo: Freestyle graphics compo
Placed: 2nd

I did the sketch for this a while ago, but I didn't have time to finish it until 1 day before The Gathering. I used about 10 hours on the elf and fairy and sat for two hours at The Gathering trying to get motivation to do the BG. I didn't get any :P So I used maybe half an hour to do this shitty BG. Oh well.. I really have to do something about this. Next time I'll START by doing to background :) Hopefully, it will get better. Niji-hime is Japanese and translates to "Rainbow Princess". Done in Adobe PSCS3 and Painter X, as usual :)

Wrong Place

Name: Wrong Place
Released: Kindergarden 2008
Compo: Pixeled graphics compo
Placed: 2nd

I started on the demon girl a while ago, but had to take a pause because of some stress at school. Resumed drawing on this when we arrived a bit early at Kindergarden. That means I had to do the stupid background at the party again :P I never do good backgrounds >_> Even though the background is a bit ripoff from Wakare, I had this scenery in my mind, so it had to turn out this way... I should have drawn the clouds a bit more detailed and not so "speedpainty", since the difference in level of detail in this drawing is HUGE. Oh well, I'll try to do it better next time :) The drawing is inspired by Pendulum's The Other Side btw... "We will drag you from where you are, to where you belong". Done in PSCS3 and Painter X with a Wacom.

Spiral Down

Name: Spiral Down
Released: Kindergarden 2008
Compo: Photo compo
Placed: 2nd

Photo is taken at NTNU's Sentralbygg 2, on the 13th floor. Desaturated and slightly touched up in PSCS3.

Innocent Eyes

Name: Innocent Eyes
Released: Solskogen 2008
Compo: Newschool graphics compo
Placed: 3rd

I got some inspiration from a magazine and started drawing the girl a couple of days before the party started. She was very fun to draw ^^ I used PSCS3 with a wacom and did some touch-ups in Painter X. The background got rushed since I began thinkking about a background on the day of the deadline :P I chickened out and made something really quick in 3DSMax...

Bitamins

Name: bitamins
Released: The Gathering 2008
Compo: Combined demo compo
Placed: 4th

This is bitFlavour's first prod! It's a software rendered demo, which in short terms means that everything you see is done on your CPU. Read the wikipedia article for more about software rendering. Code and graphics were done by me and the music by flipside.

My Creatures of Light

Name: My Creatures of Light
Released: The Gathering 2008
Compo: Freestyle graphics compo
Placed: 6th

Purpleness! I finished this one before the party so that I could spend my time finishing my demo :P She's displayed in the demo's ending scene where her creatures of lights are animated :) Made in PSCS2 with a wacom, some touch ups in Painter

Transform the Earth

Name: Transform the Earth
Released: The Gathering 2008
Compo: Themed graphics compo
Placed: 1st

I didn't really plan to enter the themed gfx compo at TG because the themes sucked so hard :P They were: "environmental earth values" and "transformers". When I at first heard the themes a couple of days before the party, this idea instantly came into my head. But I didn't prioritize drawing it, because I had enough with my freestyle and demo. But Wednesday night I didn't manage to get a ride to my sleeping place some kilometres away, and I didn't bring any sleeping bags etc to the party. Therefore I stayed up drawing this halfway in my sleep :P It was worth staying up for ;) If people don't get the message in this, read a bit about Fourier Transform. Made in PSCS2 with a wacom, some touch ups in Painter.

Wakare

Name: Wakare
Released: Solskogen 2007
Compo: Newschool graphics compo
Placed: 2nd

"Wakare" is Japanese and means "farewell". The elf has to part with her baby dragon. =/ Made in PSCS2 with a wacom, some touch ups in Painter.

Black Frost

Name: Black Frost
Released: The Gathering 2007
Compo: Freestyle graphics compo
Placed: 8th

This didn't quite end up the way I wanted... But time ran out and I had to deliver anyway :p Made in PSCS2 with a wacom.

The Will to Chill

Name: The Will to Chill
Released: Digilab 2007
Compo: Freestyle graphics compo
Placed: 4th

The first drawing that I ever entered in a scene-related compo! \o/ Why didn't I do that before 2007? :P I've been thinking about it since 2003 but didn't deliver anythin before now. Oh well :) Better late than necer! Originally I started drawing this in 2005, but never finished it until this compo.. Originally started in PS7 with a mouse, finished in PSCS2 with a wacom.

Protectors

Name: Protectors
Released: Solskogen 2007
Compo: Oldskool graphics compo
Placed: 2nd

First oldskool drawing ever! :D It was very fun to do this. Made in PSCS2 with a mouse. 32 colours.
